Rap Treats #67: Unreleased Eric B & Rakim (1996)

Personally ripped by me for you. This bootleg came out in 1996 and features Rakim's best unreleased material. It all sounds like it was supposed to be on the Don't Sweat the Technique album (which is rumoured to have been co-produced by Large Professor, can anybody corroborate that?) My cut on here is "Hypnotic", straight b boy badness but the whole record is > all rap 2001-present.
Also, I saw Biz Markie pick this up at BASSIX (r.i.p.) record store back when Biz first came to Vancouver in 1996.
Enjoy!

A2 - Hypnotic
A3 - You Don't Fool Me

Rap Treats #62: Kid Wizard @ Wyandanch High School (1985)

The year is 1985. The location is the Wyandanch High School gymnasium. The performers are Kid Wizard, Biz Markie, MC Chilly Dawg, Grandwizard BMC & DJ Fantasy. Oh yeah, Kid Wizard is the God Rakim Allah!
This one is crazy to me simply for that reason alone. This was just before Ra and Eric B made their debut and Rakim, uh, I mean Kid Wizard, spits his '7 MC's" verse. I've included the recording of both the full party as well as just Ra's appearance. Doesn't get much more nerdy on the rap tip than this one. Thanks to OldSchoolHipHopTapes for being so incredible and jackable!

Records: Eric B & Rakim - Paid In Full 12"

I'm not sure there is much that needs to be said about Eric B & Rakim. Rakim is among the great (if not THE greatest) MC's of all time. He straight up changed the way rappers rapped. Here's all the 12" singles from their debut album Paid In Full.

Classic Material: Eric B Met The President + Eric B & Rakim Live (The Apollo)

The folks over at Unkut have answered a question I've been asking myself for 15 years now - 'I wonder what Eric B is doing these days?' Don't front, you know you've thought the same. With help from Wikipedia that mystery has finally been solved. Eric B is Paid In Full!
"Eric is now the owner of 47 restaurants throughout the U.S. including New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, California, Texas, Washington DC, and most recently, Pennsylvania. Residing in a 57,000 sq. ft. palatial manor, Eric has become the ideological musician turned entrepreneur turned royalty and has truly taken his hit song Eric B is President to fruition. With a car collection featuring seven Rolls Royce vehicles, including the famed Rolls Royce featured on the cover of Follow the Leader, Eric’s vehicular menagerie features a Rolls Royce Phantom, Lamborghini, Ferrari, Aston Martin, and many other sought-after cars and trucks.
Recently featured on MTV Cribs, Eric B’s home, with a staff of 14 grounds keepers, chefs, maids, and security staff, was influenced by oriental design.
In 2007 Eric was honored by the President of the United States with an invitation to the White House where he met President George W. Bush, the First Lady and other dignitaries." - Wikipedia
BONUS Eric B:
Eric B & Rakim performing Eric B Is President and I Know You Got Soul at The Apollo back in 1986. This is that shit! Even though Rakim was just rapping over the actual records. they still absolutely murdered The Apollo.

Rap Treats #23: St. Ides Commercials

St. Ides had the freshest commercials back in the day, and they worked too because it made me drink St. Ides at one point in my life. And St. Ides tastes like shit. There weren't a whole lot of rappers endorsing products in the early 90's like today (except for Hammer) so these were always the dopest commercials on TV. This isn't the hardest comp to find (I think it's available in stores), but the commercials are classic so it had to go up.

Rap Treats #6: Original, Rare and Unreleased
Beastie Boys (1986)
This was supposed to be on Licenced To Ill but it got dropped from the album at the last minute. The are getting their Beatles on here a little bit.

Big Daddy Kane (1987)
Produced by Marley Marl and features lyrics that eventually ended up on Kane's debut Long Live The Kane.

EPMD feat. LL Cool J (1989)
Different beat and for some reason there is no Erick Sermon. The raps are the same except there is an extra verse by LL on it. Maybe this was a LL Cool J song originally?

Eric B & Rakim (1992)
This is original version with a somewhat different beat. The baseline is absent and replaced by a few different funk samples including James Brown's "Blue's & Pants".

LL Cool J (1988)
This is the original version of "Jack The Ripper". Same beat but totally different lyrics. Not sure if he's dissing Kool Moe Dee on this too, but he's dissing somebody.
Completely different beat (drums might be the same) and features some chick singing on the chorus. Nothing beats the album version though.

This was recorded live in Amsterdam on the 1987 Def Jam UK Tour featuring Public Enemy, LL Cool J and Eric B & Rakim (they weren't on Def Jam but they were managed by RUSH). It's straight bootleg but super ill. One of the greatest tour line ups EVER.
