I always loved this 12" and at the time The Pharcyde and Masta Ace were on top of the rap world. Plus Delicious Vinyl was a cool ass record label long before it was the thing for record labels to be cool. This 12" was released as a promo only and it took me a while to hunt down a copy (big up my man Degree One for the hook up!). The L.A. Jay remix of Masta Ace's "Saturday Night Live" is the shit.

Masta Ace is a legend. Dude rapped on the greatest posse cut ever with his verse on "The Symphony", was part of the mother fucking Juice Crew, and may be the most relevant rapper today who had hits in the 80's. There are many more Masta Ace record post coming, especially covering his Take A Look Around album, but this one is all about what in my mind is Ace's biggest solo record. Masta Ace had both New York and Los Angeles banging "Jeep Ass" due to the unforgettable "Born To Roll" remix. This is the definition of extending a song's life through a remix. I think my heart is still with the original and that bassline, but the "Knowledge Me" loop on the remix is undeniable.

Records: Crooklyn Dodgers - "Crooklyn" 12"

Another one of THE GREATEST 12 INCHES OF ALL TIME (you gotta say that like Muhammad Ali), this one is great because the song is a classic plus the 12" came with vocal, acapella and instrumental versions. It was also a Brooklyn super group put together by Spike Lee for his movie Crooklyn with legends Masta Ace, Special Ed, and Buckshot. Not sure why Q-Tip (Queens Tip) got to produced the track because he isn't from Brooklyn, but he was hot as hell as a producer back then (Nas, Tribe) so it works.
