Classic Material: Wu-Tang Clan on Bronx Public Access TV (1991)
Courtesy my 2nd favourite site on the inter web. Wu-Tang on a public access TV show from 1991! Definition of classic material. Read the labels...
"EGOTRIPLAND.COM brings you this crazy rare 1991 interview (and freestyle) featuring GZA (then doing business as the Genius), Ol' Dirty Bastard (then going by Ason Unique), and RZA (then known as Prince Rakeem) on short-lived, local Bronx public access program, Rhythm & Soul."

Wu-Tang is for the children. Just a reminder. Anyways, this is the audio from the 1995 Source Awards of Wu at the height of their buzz. Hip-Hop's hottest new group at Hip-Hop's most influential magazine's award show (sorry Right On). These dudes sound hungry as fuck. Ah, the good old days.

Records: El Michels Affair - "C.R.E.A.M." 7"

This shit is pretty fresh. If you're not up on El Michels Affair, they are a Brooklyn funk band (and sometimes Wu-Tang's backing band) who put out the "C.R.E.A.M." b/w "Glaciers Of Ice" 7inch a few years back. They basically take Wu-Tang tracks and give them the live instrumental funk treatment. FatBeats just released their Enter The 37th Chamber LP where they reinterperate a grip of Wu-Tang classics. Here is the the "C.R.E.A.M." 7inch as well as a recording of Wu-Tang and El Michels Affair performing "Criminology". WU-TANG!

Records: Wu-Tang Clan - "Protect Ya Neck" 12" (Original)
Here is the original "Protect Ya Neck" 12" that Wu-Tang put out independently in 1992, back before every indie artist in Hip-Hop started doing the same thing. This is a hard record to find, so if anybody has an original copy (1st or 2nd pressing, not the bootleg!) that they want to move then get at me because I'll buy it. For real. WU-TANG!

Demos: Wu-Tang Clan Demo Tape (1992)
Monday, August 11, 2008
Records: Wu-Tang Clan - "Protect Ya Neck" 12"

Another classic 12inch for the archives... times 2. When Wu-Tang came with "Protect Ya Neck" they shitted on the whole rap world. This is (in my opinion) the greatest posse cut ever from one of THE GREATEST 12 INCHES OF ALL TIME. I realize it wasn't looked at as a posse cut, but looking back 15 years later that's exactly what it was. "Scenario" and "The Symphony" also get top spot consideration, but this one wins in my world (or maybe it's a tie).

Rap Treats #30: Wu-Tang Clan "Mystagogue Vol. II"
I never knew about this tape before, but apparently it was only given out at skateboard shops with the purchase of some magazine I'd never even heard of called Slap. And to make it even more obscure it was only available on cassette tape back in 1996. Right around the time Wu-Tang was at their peak. I'm not sure who the DJ who mixed this is but he definitely gets busy. Anybody have Volume 1? WU-TANG!

Rap Treats #23: St. Ides Commercials

St. Ides had the freshest commercials back in the day, and they worked too because it made me drink St. Ides at one point in my life. And St. Ides tastes like shit. There weren't a whole lot of rappers endorsing products in the early 90's like today (except for Hammer) so these were always the dopest commercials on TV. This isn't the hardest comp to find (I think it's available in stores), but the commercials are classic so it had to go up.

Rap Treats #15: Wu-Tang Clan on Tim Westwood (1997)

This is another classic radio interview from Ol Dirty Bastard, RZA and Method Man from back in 1997 when they were on Tim Westwood's show on Radio 1 Wu-Tang 1. This clip is close to 20 minutes long and nobody raps, but it's pretty funny shit to hear ODB go off like only ODB can.
